Tip # 115
(Technical Info) EXIF Camera Information
A few years ago the JPEG group got together with digital camera manufacturers and came up with a standard set of information that could be saved inside a JPG file. This information is known as EXIF. This EXIF information contains things like shutter speed, ISO, F-Stop, Date-Time photo was taken, Lens setting, etc.
All of these settings are useful IF you are looking at a photo and wondered "Gee, I like this photo, I wonder what settings I used.". Well you can go back to Photo Jockey and load up the photo and then look at the Properties of the photo. This shows you the EXIF Camera Information.
BONUS:
Photo Jockey has implemented the PNG format with the ability to keep the EXIF data.
THE PROBLEM:
The problem with EXIF is that since not all photo editing software can detect it, this EXIF stuff gets dropped from the saved files in these softwares. That means if you go back to look at the EXIF stuff, it's GONE!!!!!! Now if you keep your originals, you can have Photo Jockey restore the EXIF Information.
THE SOLUTION:
If you are concerned about your photo editing software NOT keeping the EXIF data, you can solve the problem by using the Editing feature of Photo Jockey. You click a button and it auto-loads YOUR choice of photo editing software. Then when you save the file in YOUR editing software and then exit, then Photo Jockey awakens and looks at the file. If the file has LOST the EXIF data, then Photo Jockey RE-INSERTS it back into the file :) This ability is available because Photo Jockey keeps a copy of the EXIF data when you click to edit the photo.
